The Limassol Marathon is run along the city's seafront and is organised by Eleven Blue Events. Visit Cyprus calls it the largest road-running event in Cyprus, and its listing says more than 17,000 participants from dozens of countries have taken part. The details below follow the organiser's site and the Visit Cyprus listing. Race timings, categories and road closures are the organiser's to confirm.

The course

  • Accreditation: the organiser says the course is fully accredited by AIMS and flat, following the Mediterranean coastline.
  • Route: from the centre of the city, along the beachfront, to the ruins of the ancient royal city of Amathus, and back to the city.
  • Landmarks: Visit Cyprus names the Molos Promenade, Limassol Marina and Amathus.
  • Races: six race categories, with parallel activities for families, children and corporate teams, according to Visit Cyprus.
  • Times: Visit Cyprus lists the event from 07:15 on Saturday 3 April to 13:15 on Sunday 4 April, so check which races run on which day.

Seeing Amathus

Visit Cyprus describes Amathus as an ancient city-kingdom on the coast. Our ancient sites guide covers it with the other sites worth visiting, and the Limassol overview explains the city as a base. For the spring season, see Cyprus in spring.

Planning around the weekend

  • Accommodation: big race weekends can fill hotels, so confirm availability early. See where to stay in Cyprus.
  • Roads: the seafront roads near the course may be closed, and the organiser publishes the details. See driving in Cyprus.
  • Opening hours: Visit Cyprus lists no public holiday on those dates. See Cyprus public holidays.

Getting around Limassol

Visit Cyprus says urban buses link areas within the towns and run frequently in the daytime, and that taxis in every town must use a meter. It also lists major car-hire firms with offices in every town and at both airports: see Cyprus without a car for how far public transport goes.

Kolossi Castle

Kolossi Castle, west of Limassol, is where Visit Cyprus says the Knights of the Order of St John had their Grand Commandery after 1291, and where the sweet wine that became Commandaria took its name. It is a short addition to a race weekend, and Cyprus wine explains the wine.
