Cyprus in Spring
Spring is the best season for walking, villages and sightseeing in Cyprus: the countryside is green, the heat has not arrived, and the main sites are comfortable. The sea is still cool for many swimmers early in the season, and Orthodox Easter can change opening hours and bookings, so check the Easter date before you fix your trip.
- Best for
- Walkers, couples, culture travellers and anyone who wants Cyprus warm but not hot.
- How much time
- A week lets you combine the coast, the Akamas and the Troodos; a long weekend suits a single base.

In this guide
Spring is when Cyprus looks its best and behaves best: green hills, flowers along the paths, and sightseeing without the summer glare. It is also the season most affected by the calendar, because Greek Orthodox Easter shapes the island's rhythm. This guide explains what to expect month by month, and where it differs from winter and the long summer.
What to expect
| Topic | Reality |
|---|---|
| Weather | Warmer and steadier than winter, but still changeable early in the season. Evenings and the mountains stay cool. Check forecasts at the Department of Meteorology. |
| Sea | Visit Cyprus gives open-sea temperatures above 22°C from June to November and an average of 16 to 17°C from January to March, so spring sits in between. Plan beach time as a bonus rather than the point. |
| Countryside | Visit Cyprus describes April and May as a green season with flowers in bloom, and calls it an excellent time for nature. |
| Crowds | Light early in the season, busier around Easter and in May. |
| Opening | More seasonal businesses reopen as spring goes on; confirm boat trips, beach bars and mountain restaurants before you rely on them. |
How the months differ
| Month | Character |
|---|---|
| March | Visit Cyprus calls the weather moderate, with plenty of sunshine, and March an excellent month for long country walks. |
| April | Visit Cyprus describes April and May as pleasantly warm by day, with slightly chilly nights. Orthodox Easter falls in April in some years (12 April in 2026) and early May in others (2 May in 2027). |
| May | Still pleasantly warm rather than hot, with the countryside green. Visit Cyprus puts the start of the long dry summer at mid-May. |
What to do in spring
- Walk the Akamas: the best season for the Aphrodite and Adonis trails. See best hikes in Cyprus.
- Visit the big sites: the Paphos mosaics and Kourion are comfortable and quieter than in summer. See ancient sites in Cyprus.
- Take a mountain day: painted churches and forest trails without the summer crowds, with cool air and fewer cars.
- Eat seasonally: village tavernas and markets at their best. See the Cypriot food guide.
- Do a road trip: spring is the most pleasant time to drive the island. See the Cyprus road trip.
Orthodox Easter
Orthodox Easter follows a different calendar from Western Easter, so the dates often differ. Visit Cyprus lists Orthodox Easter Sunday as 12 April in 2026 and 2 May in 2027, against 5 April and 28 March for Western Easter. Easter is the main festival of the Greek Orthodox calendar, so expect the island's rhythm to change around it. Easter food is part of the experience: flaounes are savoury cheese pies with eggs, cheese, raisins and mint, traditionally made on Holy Thursday and, according to Visit Cyprus, found in bakeries all year but more so at Easter.
- Book early if you can: Easter is a holiday period on the island, so hotels and rental cars may be busier. Confirm availability for your dates.
- Check opening hours: Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays, when Visit Cyprus says shops, banks and services are closed, although many shops and services stay open in resorts and coastal areas. Shops must close by 18:00 on Good Friday. During Holy Week the main archaeological sites and museums close only on Easter Sunday.
- Be respectful: church services are religious events. Keep a distance, keep quiet and follow local guidance.
Kataklysmos (the Festival of the Flood) is a public holiday on the Monday of Pentecost, which falls after the end of spring in the Easter calendar: 1 June in 2026 and 21 June in 2027. Events vary by town, so check the local municipality.
Where to base yourself
- Paphos: the sites and the Akamas are at their best now. See the Paphos overview.
- Limassol: a central base with Kourion and the wine villages. See the Limassol overview.
- Troodos: one or two nights in the hills, when the weather is cool and the forest is green. See the Troodos overview.
- East coast: Ayia Napa and Protaras are waking up, but check what is open before booking early in the season.
